Mental health conditions are prevalent among this population,during or after service. This is due to the work circumstances they are exposed to duringdeployment, hence these service men and women need support both during and after thebattlefield. During service, they experience direct combat exposure and highly stressfulsituations which leads to prevalence of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). PTSD is ananxiety disorder which develops after one is exposed to a stressful event or terrifying event swhich posesevere physical harm risks or are life threatening. At least 10% of veterans areaffected by PTSD each year (Reisman, 2016). Unlike stress which is common after trauma,PTSD victims experience anger and isolation symptoms which do not go away, and get worseover time. Most veterans experience distressing and persistent symptoms as they re-experiencethe trauma through emotional numbness, flashbacks, sadden anger, drug and alcohol abuse, andrelationship problems.
